Garage Flooring Is Worth the Investment

By Tom Turner

One of the best home improvement projects you could plan would be to add value to your garage. The garage flooring is a very important aspect to the entire look and feel of a garage. You might be surprised how much value you can add to your home with a nice decorative garage floor.

There are some very good reasons to add a nice flooring surface to your garage or shop. If you spend allot of time in your garage you may be thinking about the safety factors involved with our garage floor. By simply adding a garage floor mat you can make your garage much safer to walk on and work in.

Garage flooring mats come in many styles and color and can add some nice value to your home. Mats are easy to install and this is a project you can complete on your own without hiring a contractor and a lot of added expenses. The added value can really make a huge divergence if you plan to sell your home in the near future.

If you are more concerned about the wear and tear on your flooring then you may want to consider a sealant type of surface. Again, there are many good ones on the market that you can apply on your own saving you hundreds of dollars. A sealant will help keep stains and other spills from working into the concrete and causing all kinds of damage.

One of the great things about a mat or sealant for your garage flooring is the fact that you can always add a new mat or apply some new sealant every few years. The new look will keep things interesting and safe for you and your family.

You can find many products online, but you may find some good deals at your local home improvement stores. The best time to shop for this type of material is in the off season. No matter what type of garage flooring choose you are sure to make a notable improvement to the old stained concrete floor that most people have.

Swisstrax Interlocking Floor Tiles: Never Has Flooring Induced So Much Garage Envy

A whole new level of garage gear obsession. [click on image]

from Gear Patrol

If you are anything like me, then your garage serves as a multifunctional part of your home. It’s a place to park your vehicles, store your tools, hide your toys, and, just maybe, hide yourself. If your garage is anything like my garage, then its floor looks like absolute crap. Enter Swisstrax.

Originally hailing from Switzerland but now manufactured in California, Swisstrax represents Gear Patrol’s new favorite innovation from the neutral nation, coming out of nowhere to unseat Ricola cough drops and holey cheese. Swisstrax offers six different styles of tile, some of which are available in fourteen different colors. Even better, their website features a floor designer whereby you can layout a custom floor and easily order all the pieces you’ll need. Here’s a tip: the square tiles lend themselves perfectly to oversized renderings of your favorite 8-bit game characters (think Mario, the size of a Mazda).

Their various designs suit garages, workout rooms, airplane hangars, and more. Each tile features a hefty complement of snap locks to secure it to its brethren, and a four point injection molding process that allows a Swisstrax floor to withstand up to 40,000 pounds of roll-over compression. Even if you could overwhelm this floor system with the sheer bulk of your man-toys, you’d be backed by a 12 year warranty. My favorite feature is simply a function of the tiles interlocking design. Unlike other floor coatings and coverings, the tiles are inherently portable and reusable. Consider me impressed.

Gear Patrol Hands-On: GP procured Swisstrax floor tiling for hands-on testing. We pinched, pulled, stomped, and even bit the Swisstrax with all of our combined might. Nary a scratch was made. Conclusion: this is one tough tile.

Unbiased Information on garage flooring products,
vendors, installation and manufacturers

Garage Flooring Info Com
In the comical last 24 hours we have gotten a lot of attention. Apparently an article we wrote attracted a lot of attention. While the information we published was factually accurate and contained documents from reliable sources, we have been asked by two competitors (to each other) to remove the BLOG. While we do not normally cave when we have accurate information, one of the two companies threatened action that would have forced us into a position where we would not be able to maintain our unbiased position. Therefore, for the greater good of the industry we removed information from the BLOG as well as the documents it contained. Requests for these documents will not be honored. What made the situation comical is that we invited both competitors the ability to talk about their companies and get some free PR. Both declined and I believe they each thought that we were ?tied in? with the other company. It was interesting to watch, but I think I will stay out of the way of fierce comp...

American garage Floor Caught in a Lie?
Michael Parker of American Garage Floor makes the claim on his website that "We do not operate several garage flooring sites LIKE OUR COMPETITORS". The garage flooring industry is a relatively small community of entrapenours, contractors and manufacturers. Based on documents obtained from the indiana secretary of states office, Michael Parker is also a principal in Diversified Floor Systems which operates its own website. From a technical standpont Mr. Parker could probably argue that he is telling the truth..... After all American Garage Floor and Divirsified Floor Systems are operated by seperate companies. You as the consumer will have to make the judge as to weather or not claiming not to operate multipmle websites, and then doing so under seperate company names is being truthful.Printout from in.gov

Garage Flooring Mats ParkingPad G-Floor
Garage Floor ing Mats One of the products that have really impressed me over the last few years is the Parking Pad® Garage Floor Mat from Better Life technology. Having been in this industry for some time, it is not very often that you find an easy to use product that does what it says it is going to do. The PVC garage floor mat from Better Life Technology (BLT) protects your concrete floor from dirt, salt and chemicals you bring in with your vehicle on a daily basis. Unlike containment mats, the BLT garage floor mat is suitable for use over your entire garage floor. If you are like me and you have spent thousands of dollars on a fancy epoxy floor system only to find that it is not as resistant to hot tires and chemicals as you would like; BLT has come up with an ingenious idea of a clear mat to protect your epoxy. BLT garage floor mats are not going to provide you with the fancy checkerboard pattern that you would get with garage floor tiles, but they are much easier to install...

Anti Fatigue Mats for the Garage
One of the calls that always gave me a chuckle would be the garage flooring customers calling and looking for a ?softer? garage floor. Invariably the consumer would be looking for a product that would provide some anti fatigue properties while still being tough enough be the garage. Many consumers would call in looking for a rubber garage mat or the soft flexible tiles like you would put in a kids recreational room. Let me start with the obvious: I do not recommend a soft tile for areas of the garage that are going to be exposed to vehicular traffic. My experience has been that they simply do not hold up. That being said if you Google the term garage anti fatigue mats you will come up with a whole range of products that will work for your work areas: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=nav client&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4DMUS_enUS2 44US244&q=garage+anti+fatigue+mats The trick to using these mats is making sure that you only use these mats in the areas where you are working, not t...

Garage Flooring Tiles
Garage Flooring Tiles I was walking does the aisle of a warehouse grocery store the other day and found a product that they were advertising as garage floor tiles. The price was extremely low and I know the costs of plastics so I got a little curious. I picked up the relatively light box, placed it in my shopping cart and took them home for an inspection. I got the box open and I literally laughed. While the samples of products like Racedeck, Swisstrax and a host of others measured about ½? to the base of the pattern, this stuff was about half as thick. It also had noticeable less gloss and lacked the engineering you would normally see in a product of this type. I tried to flex the product and it literally snapped in half in my hands. To reiterate a point from my last blog, if you are going to get garage floor tiles get a sample first. My preference would have at least two tiles and 4 would be nice of each product you were considering ordering. Once you have the tiles pe...

Garage storage products are definitely an important part about getting your garage organized. While homeowners are organizing their garage, they are becoming increasingly likely to coat or cover their garage floor. While garage floor epoxy has long been accepted as the norm within the industry, many homeowners are moving towards more practical and easy to install products. There are a couple of possible problems that can arise when a homeowner uses epoxy. Fist, it is generally recommended that epoxy be installed in warmer temperatures, leaving consumers who want to remodel their garage in late fall or even winter out in the cold. Another issue with epoxy is the amount of time you may be required to leave your vehicle off the floor. Third, unless you are willing to spend a small fortune on a professionally installed products, Do-It-Yourself epoxy projects have a good chance of peeling or failing due to hot tires, poor floor preparation, improper installation and the moisture content ...

Overhead Storage ? The First Step in Organizing Your Garage
Let?s face it, it is going to take more than one item to get the average garage organized, but the overhead garage storage rack is the place to start. If I could only buy one item for my garage in the next 30 days, it would be an overhead garage storage rack. It is probably one of the few products you can install in less than an hour, including the time it take to clear a path for your ladder. There are a lot of great overhead storage products on the market. Manufacturers like Onrax, Hyloft, MonsterRax, Off The Floor, TuffRax, Schulte and many others have a large selection of garage storage rack available. Many have both consumer oriented products as well as contractor only products. When asked how a consumer should choose if they want to do the project themselves or pay for a contractor to install the product one major manufacturer replied ?Its kind of tough to pay someone a few hundred dollars to attach a couple of brackets to the ceiling which is all it takes to install one...

What Type of Garage Floor Covering Should You Select?

By David Karlson

So, you have a garage and you want it to last. You want to protect the floor from grease, oil and all other spills and marks that can occur in a busy garage setting. What type of garage floor covering should you consider purchasing?

There are many different types of garage floor covering options for you to consider. You can choose floor tile that is available in many different types of materials. You can even paint your floor with a special type of floor paint.

There are mats available in many different sizes. This form of garage floor covering is quite simple to install as you just throw it on the floor wherever you want it. This is probably the easiest way to cover your garage floor.

If you choose to paint your garage floor, make sure you purchase the right kind of paint for the job. The paint is a special epoxy that is designed to protect the floor from spills and general wear and tear.

A good garage floor covering can save you money in the end because it will be protecting your concrete. It will also act as a safety feature in preventing people from slipping on the wet or slippery concrete.

If you choose tile as your garage floor covering, you will have many choices in patterns and colors to choose. An interlocking floor tile is quite easy to install and does not take a lot of time to install either. It can also be used in a basement or workshop as it is not limited to use in the garage.

A garage floor covering will also allow you to keep the floor much cleaner as a covering is easier to clean than the concrete base. If you happen to spill some gas or oil, it is a whole lot easier to clean off a covering than it is off a concrete floor.

If you have always desired to have your garage floor looking like a showroom floor then that is the way to go. You will be able to impress your friends and relatives with your new garage floor.

In conclusion, if you are not happy looking at your concrete floor or it is starting to look shabby then why not consider installing a garage floor covering. These covers are excellent for protecting a concrete floor and for giving your garage a clean new look.

Your garage floor should be protected and we provide several different methods to protect any concrete floor area whether using a garage floor sealer or any type of garage floor covering.

Garage Floor Coating Can Help You Avoid The Bare Floors Syndrome

Bare Concrete Floor

Concrete Floor Covered with
Modular Garage Floor Covering Tiles

from Housing Floor

To the dismay of homeowners, builders most often leave bare concrete floors in your garage. The bare concrete floor left by the builder is not protected in anyway and can diminish the value of your home when you continue to fail in protecting by failing to install garage floor covering. There are several methods for protecting your garage floor which include, garage floor paint, garage floor coating, garage floor mats and garage floor tile. All of these garage floor coverings can help in the protection of your garage floor, and thus provide protection to your home. More than simple protection of a garage floor comes into the choice of what garage floor covering a homeowner will choose. In the decorating of your home, garages are included. Many homeowners prefer to have their garage match the style of the rest of their home, including colors and furnishings. Garage floor coating provides many choices that have not previously been available in colors and inclusions. Inclusions are those items that are put into the coating to keep the floor from being too slick. All of these choices allow a homeowner to be creative in protecting their investment of their homes.

Why Protect your Garage Floor?

All homeowners should protect their garage floors with some type of garage floor covering. Garage floor of bare concrete are open to stairs, chipping damage, vehicle residue damage and general debris damage over time. In selling a home, many factors come into play, not the least is the buyer’s perception of the home. Too often a buyer enters a garage and finds no improvement of a concrete floor, and the floor stained, chipped and otherwise damaged. This does not give a good impression of the care taken of the home. Using a garage floor coating can overcome this in two ways, the garage looks appealing and attractive to the buyer, and by protecting the floor there is not damage to discourage the buyer.

Garage floor coating offers some of the easier and quicker ways of protecting the entire garage floor. Garage floor coating is usually applied to concrete garage floors with paint rollers or brushes, and has some type of inclusion that allows for the floor not to be too slick and cause slippage. This allows for quick application and minimal cost for the benefits it provides.

In addition to protecting your floor from damage, you can also protect yourself from damage. Cleaning a floor protected with garage floor coating is usually quick and requires little effort. When messes, oils and other debris are cleaned from the floor with ease, they will be cleaned more often. Less debris and oils on the floor make it less hazardous to walk on, and avoids falls which result from slipping on debris.

The Different Sizes For Garage Floor Coverings

Durable Garage Floors - Interlocking Floor Tiles
from All Garage Floor Covering

Garage floor coverings come in different sizes that depend on what kind of covering they are. For example, roll out covers usually have bigger sizes than you need, so you can adjust them exactly the way you need them. If you want to use interlocking garage floor covering, then you will know the sizes for each tile. You will have to calculate exactly how many tiles you need and what size.

Ribbed garage floor covering usually comes in four sizes, that are most likely all you need: 7-1/2?x17', 7-1/2?x20', 9'x20' or 10'x22'. Its thickness is designed to protect your concrete better (usually around 0.055? thick).

Roll out floor covering can have many different sizes. BLT coverings are the best example here. They use the most common types of sizes that anyone could need. First of all, BLT coverings are made in three different thickness grades: 0.055? is the base thickness and it is called standard grade. It is the most common thickness; 0.075? is the medium thickness and its name is commercial grade; the thickest of them all is 0.085? and its name is industrial grade. Enough about the thickness, now it is time to talk about the width and length. The width available for roll out coverings is 7.5', 8', 9', 10'. As for the length you can order a custom length, but the maximum width still is 10'.

The coin patterned garage floor cover from BLT has a 75 mil thickness. You can imagine that as it would be about 18 sheets of copy paper. The size available is 8×22. Other coin patterned garage floor coverings come in sizes as it follows: The standard sizes for them are 7.5×17, 8×22, 9×44, 9×60, 10×24. Except the 9×44 size that comes with 85 mil thickness, all the other ones are 75 mil thick. And here are some other very popular custom sizes that are being used: 7.5×14, 7.5×20, 7.5×22, 9×20, 10×22.

In conclusion, all types of garage floor coverings are designed to be made in all the sizes anyone could need. Coverings can also be made at custom size, but it is usually better and cheaper to buy a standard sized one and cut it to fit perfectly in your garage.

How Good the Garage Floor Coverings Really Are For Your Garage?

By John Sheppard

A garage floor covering helps your garage in two ways. The garage floor is better protected and it is much prettier to look at. Everyone who likes working in their garage will want to install a covering. A garage without covering is like a man without Sports.

There are several types of coverings like: epoxy garage floor covering, roll out floor coverings, vinyl garage floor covering, linoleum floor covering, interlocking garage floor covering. You can choose the type of covering you would like to install depending on what you want to do with your garage and how much you would like to spend inside it. An epoxy garage floor covering is the best if you work a lot in your garage and you also want your garage to look spotless. It's a bit expensive though. Roll out floor coverings are the cheapest but also the most modest ones. They don't really improve the look of your garage much, they just protect your concrete and you from slipping. If you want to turn your garage into an extra room, the best choice would be interlocking garage floor covering.

A garage floor covering can help you a lot. It can also save you a lot of time. It's true some of them are harder to install and more expensive, but some of them aren't. That depends entirely on how much you want to spend on the looks of your garage. If you spend time in your garage to work on your car or something else you surely would like a covering. Not only that it protects you from slipping but it also makes it easy for you to clean the floor. The concrete is also being protected from all sorts of chemicals, gas, oil and so on. These are things that could deteriorate the concrete in time. Another good thing that a covering can do for you is hide the cracks and uneven spots in the concrete. Of course, not all types of coverings can be used like that. For example, for the epoxy covering, you need to repair all the cracks and uneven spots in the concrete or the covering will not bond. The concrete must also be clean for the epoxy covering to be applied successfully.

So, in my opinion if you really like your garage and you spend a lot of time in it, the best way to help your garage is to install a covering. It's your choice what type of covering you would like and it is also your choice on how much you want to spend on it. But even the cheapest covering can help you save time and protect yourself and the concrete.
